Knowing God - Exodus
Exodus is the gospels of the Old Testament. In the same way that Acts, the Epistles, and Revelation all look back to the events of the cross, Joshua, all the other historical OT books, the poets, and prophets all look back to the events of the Exodus. No gospel accounts, no New Testament. No Exodus, no Old Testament—and no promise of the second exodus found in Jesus!
Throughout this book, God is presented as wanting to be known. He is always the initiator, doing everything he can to free his people from serving a foreign king to instead serve him. The book begins with inglorious slavery in Egypt and ends with the glorious servitude of Yahweh in the Tabernacle. It is a book that points us to Jesus and the reality that God has set us free, is setting us free, and will set us free so that we might enter into an ever deeper knowledge of him.
